What is the Pound For Pound Challenge?
The Pound For Pound Challenge is a partnership between The Biggest Loser, General Mills, Subway, and Feeding America to help Americans secure millions of pounds of groceries for local food banks across the U.S.
Why partner with The Biggest Loser?
The Biggest Loser motivates millions of viewers to lose weight. This made it an ideal partner for the Pound For Pound Challenge, which seeks to inspire weight loss as well as provide hunger relief for America.
How was Feeding America selected to be the charitable partner?
Feeding America, formerly known as America’s Second Harvest, is a not-for-profit organization that secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually. It is the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization, with a network of more than 200 member food banks and food rescue organizations serving all fifty states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
How do I participate in the Pound For Pound Challenge?
There are three ways to participate in the Pound For Pound Challenge:
- You can pledge to lose weight at PFPChallenge.com. For every pound you pledge to lose this summer, General Mills will donate 14¢ to Feeding America – enough to provide one pound of groceries to a local food bank.
- You can look for the Pound For Pound Seals on specially-marked General Mills products. For every Seal you mail in, General Mills will donate 10¢ to Feeding America.
- You also can choose to donate directly to Feeding America by visiting www.FeedingAmerica.org.
Who can participate in the Pound For Pound Challenge?
Anyone who meets the Eligibility requirement who is interested in helping to solve the hunger crisis can participate in the Pound For Pound Challenge. Always contact your doctor before starting any weight loss program. Please do not participate if you are pregnant.
How do I pledge to lose weight?
Pledge to lose weight at PFPChallenge.com. For every pound you pledge, General Mills will donate 14¢ to Feeding America – enough to provide one pound of groceries to a local food bank.
Is there a cap on the donation amount?
As part of the online pledge, General Mills will donate at least $28,000 and up to $140,000 -- 14¢ for every pound pledged. General Mills will also donate 10¢ for every Pound For Pound Lid or Seal that is mailed in before December 31, 2009 – up to $275,000.
When will Feeding America receive the donations?
For the Pledge program, General Mills will pay the entire proceeds (up to the maximum of $140,000) in a single lump sum payment following the conclusion of the Pledge program in June, 2009. The donation will be based on pledged weight loss.
For the Mail Lids & Seals program, General Mills will pay the proceeds realized to date in May, 2009. Within 20 days of the conclusion of the Mail Lids & Seals program on December 31, 2009, General Mills will pay the balance of the proceeds, based on Pound For Pound Seals received on or prior to December 31, 2009. The total payment to Feeding America for the Mail Lids & Seals program will be capped at a maximum of $275,000. Feeding America will ensure that these payments are promptly used for the benefit of local food banks.
How will you determine which communities receive the grocery donations?
Feeding America will distribute funds donated by General Mills based on the zip codes of consumers who participate in the program. In other words, areas of the U.S. that participate most actively in the Pound For Pound Challenge stand to benefit most from the donations.
How long will the Pound For Pound Challenge last?
For the online “Pledge” component of the Pound For Pound Challenge, you’ll be able to go online and pledge to lose weight until May 31, 2009.
You will have until December 31, 2009 to mail in Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids from specially-marked General Mills products.
Can I submit the Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids I’ve saved even after the program’s deadline of December 31, 2009?
No. We’re sorry we cannot accept Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids after the end of the program. But it would be great if you wanted to make a donation equal to the value of the Seals and/or Lids that you collected. Simply visit

Can I save my Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids and submit them for future programs?
No. Unfortunately, we can’t accept Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids beyond the submission deadline of 12/31/09. But watch for the next program period so you can start saving new Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids. And, as always, you can contact Feeding America directly about other ways to help in the meantime.
Can I send in Yoplait® lids, even if they’re not gold?
No. it’s important to send in only gold Pound For Pound Lids for Yoplait yogurt products. They’re the only Lids included in the Pound For Pound program donation to Feeding America.
If I’ve torn my Pound For Pound Seal and/or Lid, can I still send it in?
We can accept Pound For Pound Seals and/or Lids with small tears, so long as you send in the whole Seal and/or Lid. Please do not send in partial Seals and/or Lids.
